FINANCIAL AIDAscension College is a recognized participant in the federal student aid programs supported by the U.S. Department of Education. These programs have been designed to help applicants who have limited financial resources. Their objective is to provide funds in the forms of grants for qualified students who would not otherwise be able to continue their education. Eligible students can receive Federal Pell Grants. Students can also apply for alternative student loans. Ascension College does not offer any in-house scholarships. Students may apply directly with any organization/sponsor which offers scholarships. Federal student aid is awarded on the basis of need. Need is the difference between the student's cost of education (educational expenses such as tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies, and other expenses) and the amount the student and/or the student's parents are expected to contribute toward his/her education. Need is determined by evaluating the information supplied by the student on the aid application. Factors such as income, assets, and family size are all considered in determining the need for aid. All funding is awarded based on qualification and professional judgment of the Financial Aid Officer. Application Procedures For All Financial Aid Programs The student must complete the U.S. Department of Education's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or an approved alternate form. This form must be submitted to the school. Applicants will be notified by the Government and the school of aid awarded as soon as possible thereafter. No assumption of the financial aid is to be construed until this notice of award is received. Other useful records are the W-2 forms and other records of money earned in the previous year, current bank statements and mortgage information and records of nontaxable income received from the Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration, and other agencies. You may apply even if the tax return is not yet completed. However, this means you will have to estimate the financial information on your application, and you may have to prove accuracy of your estimate before you are awarded aid. Also, you will have to change any figures that prove to be incorrect. |
